The birth of a style – a look at our designer’s work

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to work on a new dress or pants style for a brand like by Insomnia? All of our designs are created by Marlena, who has designed hundreds of original styles bearing the moth logo since 2011.

Believe us, it’s not easy to design at least four completely new cotton-knit pants styles every season, when you already have dozens of such designs under your belt. But our designer, Marlena Niestryjewska, is an incredibly creative person — with exceptional taste and a feel for trends. She can predict what will be fashionable several seasons ahead and create pieces our customers instantly fall in love with.

Marlena lives in Sopot, and that’s where — working with local tailors — the prototype of a garment is created, which we simply call the “mother” pattern. When this prototype arrives at our Warsaw office, Natalia tries it on, and together with Marlena they discuss every detail: adjustments, corrections, and the choice of knit fabric the style will be produced in.

The approved “mother” pattern then goes to the sewing workshop we work with in Łódź, where the style is prepared in all planned sizes. It often travels the Łódź–Sopot–Warsaw route several times before the perfect version is achieved. Next, a digital version of the pattern is prepared in the pattern room, allowing the cutters to transfer the design onto the chosen knit fabrics. Then experienced seamstresses get to work.

After pressing, tagging and folding, the entire production run arrives at our warehouse in Warsaw. From there, the “still warm” garments are sent out within a single day to our boutiques, or shipped directly to the customers who ordered them from our online store.
